Clinical Training Pathways

As of Fall Quarter 2023, the UW BHSS Clinical Training Program envisions the following pathways to eligibility for credentialing as a BHSS:

  1. Earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, behavioral healthcare or related field from a Washington State college or university approved by the Department of Health to offer the BHSS specialization. This option will be available starting Fall 2024 with current UW BHSS Clinical Training Program education partners.
  2. Earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, behavioral healthcare or related field that includes a registered apprenticeship combined with a bachelor’s degree. This option is under development.
  3. Complete post baccalaureate studies meeting the competency requirements for the BHSS specialization. This option is under development.

Notes:
Both baccalaureate and post baccalaureate programs are dependent on meeting final rules established by the Department of Health. These rules will not be in effect until January 2025. Therefore, all programs that start before that date are considered provisional and subject to meeting approval from DOH after final rule making is in place.
Registered apprenticeships are overseen by the Department of Labor and Industry.
